Alfalfa Chopping Video

Alfalfa Merging

Alfalfa Merging 001

This is the merging machine.

Alfalfa Merging 003

The machine drives over one windrow, picks it up and lays it next to another one. That’s so there’s one larger windrow for the chopper.

You want to mow when there are about 10% blooms throughout the field.

The mower showed up soon after I took the pictures of the field.

There are three mower sections all together 30 feet wide. There’s one in the front and two in the back of the tractor.

Here’s the windrow up close.

I’m going to take a ride!

Here’s the view from the cab.

Here’s how the driver stays awake mowing about 240 acres per day. About to watch the NBA playoffs!

You can see how the mower is attached to the tractor.

Here’s a rear view of the mower.

You can see the two mower sections in the back merging with the one already on the ground from the front section.

Update on the alfalfa

Growing Corn 029

Our alfalfa field is just about ready to mow and chop again. Remember when I said that we could get four to five cuttings? This will be number 2.

Growing Corn 030

Pretty!

Everything is growing!

Pretty rows of corn.

In the distance it’s beginning to look like a green carpet from some angles.

This is a shot from across the back lane.

One of my favorite views of the corn.

The alfalfa is growing again. We hope to get three or four more cuttings off  of it this season.
